The New Balance 2002R OG ‘Light Grey’ (2020) marks the return of one of the brand’s most respected performance-rooted silhouettes, reintroduced for a new generation while staying true to its original DNA. First launched as a premium running model in the early 2000s, the 2002R resurfaced in 2020 amid the resurgence of technical, retro-inspired footwear, quickly earning acclaim for its balance of understated aesthetics, comfort-driven engineering, and everyday versatility.
Overview
The New Balance 2002R OG ‘Light Grey’ (2020) is constructed with a breathable mesh base layered with premium suede overlays in a clean light grey palette, delivering a timeless and versatile look that aligns seamlessly with New Balance’s heritage design language. Subtle tonal branding, including the iconic “N” logo on the side panels, reinforces its understated appeal. Underfoot, the sneaker is equipped with a performance-oriented midsole that combines ABZORB cushioning in the forefoot and heel with an N-ergy shock-absorbing outsole, a setup originally reserved for high-end running models. A Stability Web shank provides added arch support, enhancing comfort for all-day wear. This faithful reintroduction preserves the technical integrity of the original while positioning the 2002R as a modern lifestyle essential.
