The Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 ‘Airy Green White’ (2023) reaffirms the enduring appeal of one of Japan’s most iconic sneaker silhouettes. Originally introduced in 1966 and famously worn during the 1968 Mexico Olympics—where it debuted the now-signature Tiger Stripes—the Mexico 66 has become synonymous with streamlined heritage design and everyday versatility. This 2023 ‘Airy Green White’ edition delivers a fresh seasonal update, pairing a soft green upper with crisp white detailing, staying true to the model’s minimalist roots while offering a contemporary colour refresh.
Overview
Crafted with the Mexico 66’s traditional low-profile construction, the ‘Airy Green White’ features a smooth leather upper in a muted green tone, contrasted by Onitsuka Tiger’s iconic white Tiger Stripes along the lateral and medial side panels. The classic heel flap—one of the silhouette’s defining elements—enhances both structure and visual identity, while subtle Onitsuka Tiger branding appears on the tongue and heel. A slim rubber outsole preserves the shoe’s lightweight feel and vintage-inspired profile, making it ideal for casual wear. True to its heritage, the Mexico 66 maintains its sleek toe shape and minimalist paneling, ensuring that the focus remains on its timeless design language and distinctive colour blocking.
Key Highlights
• Heritage-Inspired Mexico 66 Silhouette: Based on the 1966 training shoe that introduced the iconic Tiger Stripes, later showcased on the global stage in 1968.
• ‘Airy Green White’ Colourway (2023): Features a soft green leather upper paired with crisp white Tiger Stripes for a clean, modern contrast.
• Signature Low-Profile Construction: Slim rubber outsole, streamlined toe box, and reinforced heel flap maintain the model’s lightweight comfort and vintage aesthetic.
