The Converse Shai 001 'Ares Grey' represents a pivotal moment in contemporary basketball footwear — the first signature sneaker from Shai Gilgeous‑Alexander for Converse Basketball. Unveiled for a January 22, 2026 release, this colorway embodies a sophisticated monochromatic aesthetic named after Gilgeous‑Alexander’s son, Ares, blending refined design with performance‑driven engineering to reflect the composure and precision that define one of the NBA’s most dynamic guards.
Overview
The Shai 001 ‘Ares Grey’ builds on the silhouette’s futuristic design language with layered premium synthetic textiles and matte‑finished overlays, creating a sleek and supportive fit that transitions effortlessly from court to street. Metallic silver accents on the branding and lace loops subtly underscore the “God of War” inspiration behind the colorway, symbolizing strength and tactical mastery. Performance elements include a forefoot Zoom Air unit coupled with responsive cushioning that supports lateral quickness and explosive movements — engineered to mirror Gilgeous‑Alexander’s signature style of play. A concealed zippered upper over the laces adds both functional versatility and visual intrigue, while low‑profile construction keeps the foot close to the ground for enhanced stability. The tone‑on‑tone design maintains minimalist restraint without sacrificing Converse’s forward‑thinking approach to modern basketball aesthetics.
Key Highlights

Performance‑Oriented Cushioning: Zoom Air technology combined with responsive foam underfoot, optimized for quick changes of pace and court precision.
