Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS UB9-S Gel DS Trainer 14 'Waterfall Lichen Rock' represents a standout moment in contemporary sneaker design, blending heritage running performance with high‑fashion sensibilities. A collaboration between Japanese athletic powerhouse ASICS and visionary designer Kiko Kostadinov Studio, this 2025 release reinterprets the classic GEL‑DS Trainer silhouette through the lens of natural forms and modern aesthetics—a fusion that appeals to collectors and performance enthusiasts alike.
Overview
Curated by Kiko Kostadinov and the ASICS SportStyle development team, the UB9‑S GEL‑DS Trainer 14 ‘Waterfall/Lichen Rock’ draws its creative inspiration from découpage and natural simulacrum, concepts that reference nature’s imprint and the transformative impact of discarded and reclaimed objects in landscapes. This philosophy manifests in a layered, asymmetric upper that merges bright and opaque colors with matte hues, evocative of fossils and rock formations, while moiré‑like surfaces mimic everyday textures. Underneath, trusted ASICS technology such as rearfoot GEL® cushioning and a TRUSSTIC™ support system deliver impactful shock absorption and stability, ensuring comfort with every step. With at least 30 % of its upper composed of recycled synthetic fibers, the design also reflects a broader commitment to sustainability without compromising style or performance.
Key Highlights
Innovative Collaboration: Marks a continued partnership between ASICS and Kiko Kostadinov Studio, marrying performance heritage with avant‑garde design.
Nature‑Inspired Aesthetic: The ‘Waterfall/Lichen Rock’ palette and layered material construction evoke organic geological patterns and natural elements.
Performance‑Driven Construction: Rearfoot GEL® technology and a TRUSSTIC™ support system provide reliable cushioning and structural support in a lightweight package.
