Four Shox columns, a Max Air forefoot and a carbon-fibre-style finish: the Nike Shox Ride 2 'Black' takes Nike's early-2000s tech runner almost entirely black.
The Nike Shox Ride 2 'Black' (style code IO4296-002) is an all-black return of Nike's early-2000s Shox runner, released on 23 December 2025. Four Shox columns sit under the heel, a Max Air unit sits up front, and a carbon-fibre-style print on the Swooshes and overlays gives a tech runner from the turn of the century a darker, sharper edge.
The Nike Shox Ride 2 'Black' is live now in the Nike Shox range at PUSHAS, and every pair is authenticated by hand before it ships.
The Shox Ride 2 comes from Nike's Alpha Project, the performance line of the early 2000s. The Shox concept traces back to 1984, when Bruce Kilgore, the designer of the Air Force 1, began exploring how to put mechanical cushioning into a running shoe. Early prototypes tested hinges, springs and mechanical columns before Nike settled on hollow polyurethane foam columns, and the first Shox shoe, the R4, reached shelves in 2000.
The columns do the work. Set in a square under the heel, they compress on heel strike to absorb impact, then spring back. The four-column layout also keeps the heel stable. On the Ride 2, Nike paired that heel set-up with a Max Air unit in the forefoot, so the shoe has visible tech at both ends.
The 'Black' pair builds its upper from black mesh and leather, keeping the layered, busy look of an early-2000s runner but dropping everything to one tone. The detail that sets it apart is the carbon-fibre-style print applied to the Swooshes and the TPU overlays that wrap the upper. Against all that black, red and white Shox branding picks out the tongue and heel.

The result keeps the silhouette's mechanical character, with the columns exposed at the heel, while reading as more restrained than most Shox Ride 2 colourways.
The modern chapter of the Shox Ride 2 starts with Supreme. The Supreme x Nike Shox Ride 2 SP 'Black' (2022) was one of four colourways, alongside white, red and olive, that released on 23 June 2022, with Japan following on 25 June. Supreme kept the mesh and leather upper, added DURAPLUSH tongue and heel linings, printed co-branded insoles and marked the Shox columns themselves with SUPREME. Each colourway came with a matching running cap.

After that collaboration, in 2024 Nike brought the model back to its mainline range, opening with a 'Light Bone/Turf Orange' colourway. Since then the silhouette has cycled through a steady run of colourways, and the 'Black' pair is the stealth entry in that run.
Fit reports for the Shox Ride 2 vary, so check your usual Nike size against the complete Nike size guide before you choose. The build pairs a foam midsole and rubber outsole with those four columns under the heel, which give the shoe its distinctive stance.

This is a Y2K tech runner, so lean into it. The all-black colourway works with technical outerwear, nylon track pants, cargo trousers or black denim with a slight stack at the ankle so the heel columns stay visible. For a cleaner look, keep the palette monochrome: black tee, black trousers, and let the carbon-fibre-style print and red branding do the detailing. If you want contrast, PUSHAS also stocks the 'White Black' pair, which suits grey marl, washed denim and summer layers.
