The Mattel Creations Virgil Abloh x MOTU Skeletor Collector Figure stands as a bold fusion of high fashion and nostalgic pop culture, reimagining one of Masters of the Universe’s most iconic villains through the visionary lens of the late Virgil Abloh. Released in 2022 under Mattel Creations, this limited-edition collectible pays tribute to Abloh’s conceptual design philosophy and his enduring impact on the worlds of art, fashion, and design.
Overview
The Virgil Abloh x MOTU Skeletor Collector Figure reinterprets the classic 1980s Skeletor character with Abloh’s signature aesthetic rooted in industrial design and cultural commentary. The figure, part of the “MOTU c/o Virgil Abloh™: ‘TOY’” collection, comes in monochromatic “PURPLE” — a hue historically linked to Skeletor — while integrating Abloh’s distinct graphic text and minimalistic approach. The packaging itself becomes part of the art, featuring clear labeling, quotation marks, and raw design elements that echo Abloh’s Off-White™ identity. The 5.5-inch figure is crafted in the traditional MOTU Origins style with multiple points of articulation and comes housed in a premium, transparent box designed for display and preservation. Limited in quantity and highly sought after, the figure embodies a crossover between contemporary design and collector culture.
Key Highlights
• Limited-Edition Collaboration: A rare partnership between Mattel Creations and Virgil Abloh, blending high fashion with toy design under the “MOTU c/o Virgil Abloh™: ‘TOY’” banner.
• Monochromatic ‘PURPLE’ Design: Features a striking single-tone palette inspired by Skeletor’s original color scheme, presented through Abloh’s conceptual lens.
• Distinctive Virgil Abloh Aesthetic: Incorporates signature design cues like industrial typography, quotation marks, and raw labeling for a minimalist yet thought-provoking presentation.
