The Complete Air Force 1 Size Guide

by PUSHAS 22 Aug 2026 0 comments

Updated August 2026 — fit guidance checked against Nike's official Air Force 1 sizing guide, and live Air Force 1 stock, lowest listings and buyable sizes re-checked today.

The Air Force 1 is one of the most-worn sneakers Nike makes, and one of the most commonly mis-sized. It is also the shoe people ask us about more than almost any other, and one of the most in-demand silhouettes on PUSHAS right now.

The short answer: Air Force 1s run big. The toe box is roomy and the leather stretches as it breaks in, so Nike's own recommendation is to take half a size smaller than your usual Nike size. Wide-footed wearers should stay true to size.

PUSHAS, the global marketplace for authenticated hype sneakers, streetwear and collectibles, carries the Air Force 1 across the full size run — so once this guide has settled your size, you can see exactly what is buyable in it further down the page.

*Based on Nike's published footwear sizing. This is the general Nike chart; the Air Force 1 fit advice below is what makes it specific.

Read the chart to find the US, EU or centimetre equivalent of your foot length — then apply the Air Force 1 adjustment in the next section. The chart gives you the number; the fit advice gives you the size to actually buy.

Do Air Force 1s run big?

Yes. Air Force 1s run big, and the reason is structural rather than inconsistent: the toe box is unusually spacious, and the stitched leather upper relaxes and moulds to the foot as it breaks in. A pair that fits snugly out of the box will be comfortable in a fortnight; a pair that fits comfortably out of the box will feel loose by then.

Nike's own guidance is to select half a size smaller than your usual Nike shoe size. If you normally wear a US M10 in Nike, consider a US M9.5 in Air Force 1s.

The one clear exception is width. If you have wide feet, take your usual Nike size — the roomy toe box is doing useful work for you, and sizing down will cost you comfort rather than buying you a better fit.

Choosing your Air Force 1 size by how you wear them

There is no single correct Air Force 1 size — there are three defensible ones, and which is right depends on how you want them to sit and how you lace them.

  • Secure, locked-in fit — half a size down. Snug at first, then perfect. This is the standard recommendation and the one most wearers land on. It also creases less across the toe, because there is less empty upper to fold.
  • Relaxed fit — true to size. More room in the toe box, more comfortable immediately, and the safest choice if you have wide feet. The trade-off is more creasing over time.
  • Slip-on, laces loose — a full size down. If you wear them barely laced and slide in and out, a full size down keeps the heel from lifting.

Two smaller variables worth accounting for: thick socks effectively take up half a size, and an aftermarket insole will tighten the fit noticeably. If you are genuinely between sizes, the larger size plus a thicker sock or an insole is the more forgiving combination.

Do Air Force 1 Lows, Mids and Highs fit the same?

Not quite. The Low is the roomiest of the three. The Mid and the High sit tighter — the collar and the extra panelling reduce the volume around the ankle and instep, so a Mid or High in the same size will feel more contained than a Low.

In practice: if you have settled on half a size down in Lows and you find Mids or Highs uncomfortably tight, going true to size in the Mid or High is reasonable. Different upper materials matter too — patent, suede and Vibram-soled editions do not all break in at the same rate as standard leather.

Air Force 1 men's to women's size conversion

Nike's men's and women's sizing runs 1.5 sizes apart, and it is printed on the box: a US M7 is labelled a US W8.5. On PUSHAS every Air Force 1 listing shows both, in the form “US M 9 / W 10.5”, so you do not have to convert anything yourself.

If you normally buy women's sizing and you are looking at a pair listed in men's, go down 1.5 sizes from your women's size. Going the other way, add 1.5. Then apply the Air Force 1 half-size-down adjustment on top.

How to measure your foot

If you are buying your first pair, or converting from another brand, measure rather than guess:

  1. Measure late in the day. Feet swell over the course of a day; an afternoon measurement is the honest one.
  2. Stand up. Measure standing, with weight on the foot, so the foot is at its full spread.
  3. Measure both feet. They are rarely identical. Use the larger.
  4. Wear the socks you plan to wear. Thick socks change the answer by about half a size.

Take the longest distance from heel to longest toe in centimetres, find it in the chart above, then apply the Air Force 1 adjustment.

Expert tips for Air Force 1 sizing

  • Half a size down is the default. Start there unless you have wide feet.
  • Wide feet: stay true to size. Do not size down.
  • Expect the leather to relax. Snug out of the box is the correct starting point.
  • Mids and Highs fit tighter than Lows in the same size.
  • Between sizes? Take the larger size and add a thicker sock or an insole.
  • Avoid over-tightening the laces — it accelerates creasing along the sides.

Air Force 1 sizing: frequently asked questions

Do Air Force 1s run big or small?

They run big. The toe box is roomy and the leather stretches as it breaks in, so Nike recommends taking half a size smaller than your usual Nike size. Wide-footed wearers should stay true to size.

Should I size down in Air Force 1s?

For most people, yes. Half a size down gives the secure, locked-in fit the shoe is designed for, and it creases less. Go true to size if you have wide feet or want a deliberately relaxed fit, and a full size down only if you wear them barely laced as a slip-on.

What size Air Force 1 should I get if I wear a US 10 in Nike?

A US M9.5. That follows Nike's own half-size-down guidance: half a size below your usual Nike size.

Do Air Force 1 Highs fit the same as Lows?

No. Mids and Highs fit tighter than the Low in the same size, because the collar and extra panelling reduce volume around the ankle and instep. If half a size down feels too tight in a Mid or High, go true to size in those cuts.

What is a men's 8 in women's Air Force 1 sizing?

A US W9.5. Nike men's and women's sizing runs 1.5 sizes apart, and PUSHAS lists both on every Air Force 1 listing.

Do Air Force 1s stretch over time?

Yes. The stitched leather upper relaxes and moulds to the foot over the first few weeks, which is exactly why a snug fit out of the box is the right starting point rather than a warning sign.

Where can I buy authentic Air Force 1s?

Air Force 1s are live at PUSHAS across the full size run, every pair authenticated by hand, with global shipping from Sydney and Los Angeles.

Conclusion

The Air Force 1 arrived in 1982 as Nike's first basketball shoe built with Nike Air, and forty-four years later it is still one of the most-worn sneakers the brand makes. Sizing it is simple once you know the rule: half a size down from your usual Nike size, true to size if your feet are wide, and a size tighter again in the Mid and High.
