The Nike Kobe 5 Protro 'Year of the Mamba' 'Eggplant' (IB4481-500) is Nike's 2025 Lunar New Year edition of Kobe Bryant's low-top signature shoe. Released on 9 January 2025, it wraps a golden snake around the Swoosh to mark the Year of the Snake.
Overview
2025 is the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac, and Nike tied it to Kobe's Black Mamba persona. As Nike puts it, Kobe was intuitive, strategic and intelligent on court, the same attributes the zodiac gives the snake. The Nike Kobe 5 Protro 'Eggplant' carries that theme in a Lakers-inspired purple and gold palette.
A metallic Eggplant purple upper is offset by black on the heel, interior and laces. A golden snake graphic wraps around the Swoosh, snakeskin detailing covers the heel, and a translucent outsole finishes the build. As a Protro, it takes the original Kobe 5 shape and adds upgraded traction and cushioning for today's game.
