Numbered 001/028 in the S8a 25th Anniversary Collection, this Japanese Pikachu features artwork by Mitsuhiro Arita and presents Pikachu as a Basic Pokémon with 60 HP. The card has the Electric type and features the attacks Gnaw for 10 damage and Thunder Jolt for 30 damage, with Thunder Jolt carrying a coin-flip effect that can also cause 10 damage to Pikachu. The Pokémon Card Game’s official 25th Anniversary website confirms that the artwork recreates the illustration from the original 1996 Pokémon Card Game expansion. The Japanese 25th Anniversary Collection was released on October 22, 2021, with five holographic cards included in each booster pack, one of which was a Basic Energy card. For collectors, this Pikachu combines one of the franchise’s most recognisable characters with a deliberate visual reference to the earliest Pokémon TCG era.
