UGG Classic Mini II vs Tazz vs Disquette: Which UGG to Wear

Boot, braided platform or easy slip-on: how the UGG Classic Mini II, Tazz II and Disquette are built, fit and style.

The UGG Classic Mini II, Tazz II and Disquette all start from the same idea: soft sheepskin worn against the foot. The Classic Mini II is the ankle-height boot that carries the brand's original shape, the Tazz II is a platform slip-on with a braided collar, and the Disquette is a lower, easier platform slipper. Choosing between them comes down to how much coverage you want and where you plan to wear them.

Where the shape comes from

UGG was founded in 1978 by Brian Smith in Southern California. The brand's own telling is simple: Smith, a surfer, made a sheepskin boot to warm his feet after cold mornings in the Pacific, and other surfers took to it quickly. From the beach it moved into everyday wear.

The Classic II line is the modern version of that template. Compared with the original Classic, the II brought in sheepskin that is pretreated to resist water and stains, a switch to a Treadlite by UGG outsole for more grip, and an embossed UGG logo heel label. The silhouette stayed the same.

The three styles, piece by piece

UGG Classic Mini II

The Classic Mini II is the short member of the Classic II family, with a shaft of around five inches that stops just above the ankle bone. The upper is twinface sheepskin, meaning the fleece side faces your foot and the suede side faces out, with 17mm of sheepskin through the lining and insole. The upper is treated to repel water and resist stains, there is a pull tab at the back for getting it on, and the heel carries an embossed UGG logo label. Depending on production, the outsole is either Treadlite by UGG or UGG's sugarcane EVA sole.

UGG Tazz II

The Tazz II is a slip-on built on a platform of about 1.75 inches, with a sheepskin lining and the UGGbraid trim running around the collar. That braid is the detail people recognise from across a room: a woven, patterned band that frames the opening and gives the shoe its outline. UGG builds the braid from recycled polyester fibres and adds a pull tab at the heel. It sits between boot and slipper.

UGG Disquette

The Disquette is the simplest of the three. It is a suede slip-on on a platform sole, lined in sheepskin, with an open, easy shape that drops on and off without a second thought. There is no braid and no shaft, just the platform and the fleece. It is the style for mornings at home, short errands and travel days when you want warmth without anything around the ankle.

How they fit and wear

All three are lined in real sheepskin, and that governs the fit more than anything else. UGG notes that its Classics may feel slightly snug at first and gradually give as the sheepskin adapts to your foot.

The Classic Mini II grips the ankle and heel, so it stays put while walking. The Tazz II and Disquette are held on by the upper and the fleece rather than a closure, so they suit shorter distances and relaxed days. If you sit between sizes, check the size guide below before you choose.

Keeping sheepskin looking right

Sheepskin rewards a little care. Brush off dry dirt first with a soft suede brush. To clean, dampen a sponge in cold water, work a sheepskin or suede cleaner through gently without soaking the upper, then blot away the residue. Let the pair dry slowly and naturally, lightly stuffed with paper to hold the shape, and keep it away from radiators, dryers and direct sun. Once dry, brush the nap in one direction with a soft brush.

How to style each one

The Classic Mini II is the most versatile. Wear it with straight-leg or flared jeans that break over the shaft, with leggings and an oversized knit, or with a long coat when it is cold. Black keeps it quiet and sharp against dark denim.

The Tazz II works with cropped trousers, wide-leg joggers and ankle-length denim that show off the braided collar. Pair it with chunky socks in a contrasting colour for a deliberate layered look, or keep it tonal with Sand-coloured knitwear.

The Disquette belongs with loungewear, relaxed sets and cropped tailoring. Chestnut is warm and easy with cream, grey marl and camel.
